Lidl Plus is a free loyalty app that stacks three separate ways to save every time you shop: weekly digital coupons, a scratch card after each visit, and, since April 2026, a new points program called Lidl Punten that gives you one point for every euro you spend. For expats trying to keep weekly food costs down in the Netherlands, it is one of the easiest apps to set up and the savings show up almost immediately.
What Lidl Plus Is and How to Set It Up
Lidl Plus is Lidl's digital customer card. There is no physical card and no membership fee. You download the app (available for iOS and Android), choose Nederland as your country, and register with an email address and phone number. Your digital barcode then lives inside the app, and you scan it at the register or self-checkout every time you shop.
Weekly Coupons: Activate Before You Shop
Each week Lidl Plus publishes a fresh batch of digital coupons on items such as fresh produce, bakery goods, meat and vegetarian alternatives, or household basics, with discounts that can run up to 50% off depending on the item. The one step people forget: you have to open the "Coupons" tab and tap "Activeren" on each coupon before you reach the till. Unlike some supermarket apps, Lidl does not apply these discounts automatically just because you scanned your card.
The Scratch Card (Kraslot) Surprise After Every Visit
After most purchases, a digital scratch card pops up in the app. Swiping it can win you a free item from the in-store bakery, a discount voucher for coffee or snacks, or an extra percentage off your next shop. It costs nothing to play and takes a few seconds once you are back in your car or on your bike home.
Lidl Punten: The New Points Program (2026)
In April 2026, Lidl rolled out Lidl Punten nationwide, becoming the first Dutch supermarket to offer one point for every euro spent (rounded up, so a €27.25 shop earns 28 points). New app users start with 100 welcome points, and points stay valid for two years. They can be exchanged for coupons covering free products or discounts across a rotating list of more than 200 items. Importantly, this runs alongside the existing coupons and scratch cards rather than replacing them, so your Lidl Plus app now layers three savings mechanics instead of two.
Digital Receipts and Other Everyday Perks
Every receipt is automatically stored under "Kassabonnen" in the app, which makes it simple to track spending, split costs with flatmates, or return a non-food item from the weekly specials. Lidl also runs occasional partner deals through the app, think discounted tickets for days out or offers on lifestyle subscriptions, though the specific partners rotate throughout the year so it is worth checking the "Partners" tab directly rather than relying on any fixed list. If you drive into Germany or Belgium, you can switch the app's region to unlock local deals without installing a second app.
Is Lidl Plus Worth It for Expats?
Given that it costs nothing and takes two minutes to set up, there is little reason to skip it if you already shop at Lidl. Combined with Lidl's naturally lower shelf prices, an active Lidl Plus app is one of the simplest ways to shave a few euros off every grocery run. If you are weighing it against Jumbo's Extra's program or Albert Heijn's paid Premium membership, the short version is that Lidl Plus is free and stacks multiple small savings, while AH Premium is a paid upgrade with bigger percentage discounts on specific categories.
